Cuban delegation participates in PASO meeting in Canada

 The vice-president of the Cuban Olympic Committee, Ruperto Herrera, and the wrestling twice Olympic champion, Mijain Lopez, travelled Tuesday to Toronto, Canada, to participate in the meeting of the Pan-American Sports Organization (PASO), the official media said.

"The election of the headquarters for the XVIII Pan-American Games of 2019 (on Friday) will be one of the most important points in the conference," Herrera said quoted by Radio Habana Cuba.

Herrera stressed that Cuba will give its vote to the city offering better guarantees to hold the Games.

Delegates from 42 national Olympic Committees (NOCs) are gathered at the international reunion.The cities applying to organize the continental appointment in 2019 are Lima (Peru), Santiago (Chile), La Punta (Argentina) and Ciudad Bolivar (Venezuela), and their representatives are scheduled to offer a 45 minute-report before the Assembly.

The XVII Pan-American Games will be held in 2015, in Toronto, Canada.

The Pan-American Sport Organization (PASO) was created in 1955 and gathers the 42 NOCs in the American continent. Its mission is strengthening the union and friendship ties among peoples and nations through sports and the Olympic ideals.


It is also the organization in charge of arranging the Pan American Games every four years.
